A Note on Non-reduced Picard Schemes
نویسنده
چکیده
The Picard scheme of a smooth curve and a smooth complex variety is reduced. In this note we discuss which classes of surfaces in terms of the Enriques–Kodaira classification can have non-reduced Picard schemes and whether there are restrictions on the characteristic of the ground field. It turns out that non-reduced Picard schemes are uncommon in Kodaira dimension κ ≤ 0, that this phenomenon can be bounded for κ = 2 (general type) and that it is as bad as can be in κ = 1.

Uniruled Surfaces of General Type
We give a systematic construction of uniruled surfaces in positive characteristic. Using this construction, we find surfaces of general type with non-trivial global vector fields, surfaces with arbitrarily non-reduced Picard schemes as well as surfaces with inseparable canonical maps. In particular, we show that some previously known pathologies are not sporadic but exist in abundance.
متن کاملSolving Parabolic and Non-linear 1d Problems with Periodic Boundary Conditions
A new class of hybrid schemes and composite inner-outer iterative schemes in conjunction with Picard and Newton methods based on explicit approximate inverse arrowtype matrix techniques is introduced. Isomorphic methods in conjunction with explicit preconditioned schemes based on approximate inverse matrix techniques are presented for the efficient solution of arrow-type linear systems. Applica...
متن کاملNotes from a problem session on support varieties
For groups other than p-groups, some work has been done for general situations [12, 13] and for simple groups [4, 5, 6]. Balmer [2] has made connections with the Picard group of the spectrum of the stable category. Nakano and the author have had some success extending the results to more general finite group schemes. For example, in the case of a p-restricted Lie algebra whose cohomology ring s...
متن کاملA Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).
This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...
متن کاملCalculation of Complicated Flows, Using First and Second-Order Schemes (RESEARCH NOTE)
The first-order schemes used for discretisation of the convective terms are straightforward and easy to use, with the drawback of introducing numerical diffusion. Application of the secondorder schemes, such as QUICK scheme, is a treatment to reduce the numerical diffusion, but increasing convergence oscillation is unavoidable. The technique used in this study is a compromise between the above-...
